Nerikha, an Ancient Egyptian phrase meaning “breath of fire,” is embodied by the sacred scarab beetle—our primary logo and a symbol of transformation, renewal, and the enduring power of ancient heritage. The elegant Oriental cat, both longhair and shorthair, traces its lineage through the graceful Siamese cats of Southeast Asia, whose ancestors are believed to descend from some of the oldest domesticated felines known to humanity. Their story reaches back thousands of years to the first cats that formed a bond with early civilizations, guardians of grain stores, companions of kings, and revered symbols of mystery and grace. In the Oriental cat, this remarkable journey endures—a living connection between the ancient world and modern elegance, carrying the breath of fire across the ages.

Beyond the boundaries of the colors recognized for Siamese, the Oriental Shorthair was developed to explore all of the possibilities of color on the lithe build of the Siamese, with over 600 different recognized combinations possible today.  Fiercely loyal and incredibly intelligent, they will spend hours playing fetch or running agility and will do anything for their chosen person.

At Nerikha, health is the absolute foundation & we prioritize health and temperament over all else ensuring that every Oriental reflects the highest standards of the breed's potential. Every one of our kittens is raised underfoot, creating well-socialized and confident companions for their future families.
